The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development, María González Corral, held a working meeting today with the president of the Duero Hydrographic Confederation (CHD), María Jesús Lafuente, to address issues of interest related to water management, the level of implementation of the Duero River Basin Hydrological Plan ending in 2027, and the planning of current and future irrigation systems in Castilla y León.
In the meeting, also attended by the Deputy Minister of Community Agricultural Policy and Rural Development, Jorge Llorente, and the director of the Agricultural Technological Institute of Castilla y León, Rafael Sáez, the demands of the irrigation communities were shared, and the planning of pending works related to the modernization of irrigation systems was analyzed.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development has offered its full collaboration to promote irrigation projects that improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in the region while achieving a more efficient use of resources, an objective that will also be reflected in the design of the new hydrological planning cycle.
González Corral has highlighted that the Castilla y León government has modernized nearly 130,000 hectares of irrigation in the region over the past two decades. Currently, works are underway to modernize an additional 24,889 hectares, with another 50,000 hectares requiring a push from the central government for their modernization.
Finally, both parties have agreed to continue holding new meetings with a constructive goal to address the hydraulic projects needed in Castilla y León.
