The Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, has signed a new financing contract between the Institute for Business Competitiveness (ICECYL) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) for €25 million to boost the Innovative Growth Plan for SMEs and midcaps developed in collaboration with Family Business of Castile and León. The Plan, driven by the Government through ICECYL, has reached €260 million formalized in various financing contracts with the EIB, thus achieving the financing goal with the EIB set for this term.

So far, the Innovative Growth Plan has successfully promoted 104 projects for business growth worth €223.5 million and a business investment of €676 million, resulting in the creation of 4,640 new jobs and contributing to the maintenance of 12,823 positions. It is particularly geared towards rural areas with a significant impact reaching 72.1% of the funded projects, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness in balancing between provinces and strengthening rural areas.

By sectors, funding for the agri-food sector stands out with 44.4% of the total funding granted. This is a business activity rooted in the territory, directly impacting the primary sector, which is particularly significant in the region’s economy.

This Plan, launched in 2017 and pioneering in Spain, emerged from the need to provide the business fabric with greater growth capacity, technological adaptation, and internationalization. Its main objective is to promote competitiveness, innovation, and the international projection of companies in Castile and León, while promoting job creation, industrial reactivation, productive diversification, and territorial rebalancing, with special attention to rural areas.
