The Emergency Coordination Center of the Junta de Castilla y León has been activated on Sunday morning to coordinate and supervise the tasks of controlling a possible fuel spill on an abandoned boat that has sunk at the Vega Terrón dock, in La Fregeneda (Salamanca), on the border with Portugal.

At noon, the Salamanca Civil Guard reported through a call to the Castilla y León 1-1-2 Emergency Center the sinking of the vessel, which was anchored and without crew on board, at the Duero River dock, and requested the presence of firefighters to control a possible fuel spill, of about 50 to 60 liters of diesel that could be inside the sunken boat.
The Emergency Coordination Center of Civil Protection of the Junta de Castilla y León has contacted the Duero Hydrographic Confederation and the Environmental Service of the Junta, as well as the Firefighters from both the Salamanca Provincial Council and the Salamanca City Council, in case additional means need to be employed to control the fuel.
On the other hand, the 1-1-2 also contacted the counterpart center in Northern Portugal, from where Portuguese Civil Protection personnel have been mobilized, who are going to the scene with spill containment material. In addition, Portuguese Maritime Police forces from Pocinho are also being mobilized.
