The Presidency Department of the Junta de Castilla y León has resolved grants for 96 mancomunidades and other local associative entities for a total of 10,394,808 euros, of which 65 percent, more than 6.7 million, are provided by the Department from the General Local Economic Cooperation of 2025.
These grants, published on Tuesday, July 1st in the Official Bulletin of Castilla y León, have reached a total of 96 mancomunidades, three more than last year, which have been able to choose from a variety of investment options.
In this way, slightly over a million residents of Castilla y León will benefit, 22 percent more than last year, in 1,463 municipalities, 17 percent more than in 2024.
The Minister of the Presidency, Luis Miguel González Gago, stated in the town of Aldeatejada in Salamanca that «the mancomunidades of Castilla y León allow small municipalities to optimize resources, improve efficiency in the management of their public services, and facilitate the implementation of projects that they could not carry out individually.»
These are precisely the main reasons why the Junta continues to offer these annual grants to the mancomunidades, as summarized by the Minister, as they «are associations that voluntarily form a group of municipalities to better provide their local services.»
Therefore, he added, they are «very valuable» associative legal instruments in a reality like that of Castilla y León with numerous municipalities and the territorial extension of the Community. «Furthermore, they have proven to be figures, local entities that guarantee effectiveness and efficiency in their operation,» he added.
Specifically, these subsidies are aimed at the acquisition of urban solid waste collection trucks (RSU), vehicles for wastewater sanitation, other vehicles for the service of the mancomunidades (cars, pick-ups, vans, and light trucks), excavators, street sweepers, pruning waste crushers, and containers for solid waste collection. It also includes the conditioning and repair of properties and warehouses owned by the mancomunidades.
OTHER INVESTMENTS
In terms of RSU collection trucks, 18 vehicles will be acquired by these entities through this call. Additionally, more than 3,300 containers will be installed in 25 mancomunidades.
Likewise, 16 service vehicles for the mancomunidades will be replaced with newer and more efficient ones, and a vehicle for cleaning and maintaining the wastewater sanitation service will also be acquired.
Furthermore, 13 pruning waste crushers will be acquired, a type of machinery introduced in this year’s call for the first time in response to the needs expressed by local representatives. Finally, funds will be provided for the renovation of twelve warehouses and premises of the mancomunidades to make them more sustainable.
González Gago detailed the resolution of the grants call for mancomunidades during the delivery and commissioning of a new street sweeper for the mancomunidad of Pantano de Santa Teresa in Salamanca, acquired through the same line of grants in 2024. In this event, held in Aldeatejada in Salamanca, the president of the mancomunidad, Roberto Rodríguez, as well as other local representatives and mayors of the mancomunidad’s towns, were also present.
The Presidency Department has provided 177,000 euros for this street sweeper, 75 percent of the total cost, while the mancomunidad has contributed the remaining 25 percent. This new machine will improve the public street cleaning service in the 25 municipalities of the mancomunidad, where approximately 7,000 residents live.
The Minister of the Presidency confirmed in this meeting that the grant request from the Pantano de Santa Teresa mancomunidad this year has been resolved on this Tuesday. They requested the acquisition of garbage containers for all 25 municipalities, and they have been granted an amount of 66,000 euros, which will be immediately implemented.
