Ministry of Economy and Finance
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the Institute for Business Competitiveness of Castilla y León (ICECYL), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, through the Technological Institute of Agriculture of Castilla y León (ITACyL), are participating in the sixth biennial edition of the Meat Attraction Fair being held in Madrid from today until Thursday, February 27.
With an investment of over 400,000 euros, the government is supporting the participation of 35 meat companies from the region, who will not only showcase their products but also establish commercial relationships with over a hundred national and international buyers attending this fair. This event is the largest business platform in the meat industry and therefore a benchmark in the sector.
Carlos Martín Tobalina, Vice Counsellor of Economy and Competitiveness, and Jorge Llorente, Vice Counsellor of Common Agricultural Policy and Rural Development, visited the Fair this morning to show their support for the region’s companies sharing stands at ICECYL and Tierra de Sabor. This edition brings together over 300 companies from more than 50 countries focused on innovation and internationalization, aiming to promote strategic agreements, establish commercial relationships, and boost the products of Castilla y León internationally.
Exports and Economic Impact
The food sector experienced a 3.14% increase in exports in 2024, positioning itself as the second largest exporting sector in the region, reaching 3,485 million euros. Additionally, the sector is home to 800 companies providing employment to 11,000 people in the region, representing 22% of all companies in Spain, and accounting for 12% of the national meat business.
Castilla y León is not only a quantitative reference in the meat industry, but also a qualitative one, hosting a total of 19 quality designations, certifying 50% of Iberian products, and offering a significant number of products within the 6,000 that make up the ‘Tierra de Sabor’ pantry. This confirms the commitment of breeders and entrepreneurs to provide the market with meats known for their excellence.
Activities at the Fair
In addition to the promotional space allocated to each company at the stands, a show cooking area has been set up with a capacity for 20 people, where three daily culinary demonstrations with two creations each will be conducted by the Michelin-starred and Repsol Sun-awarded chef from Salamanca, Rocío Parra.
Meat Attraction has become a meeting point to connect with market leaders, establish commercial ties, discover new trends, and boost the sector in international markets. In this regard, bilateral meetings have already been arranged with importers from Peru, Hungary, Poland, Singapore, and the United Kingdom interested in products from Castilla y León.
