THE Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Gonzalo Santonja, inaugurated on Monday the permanent exhibition space of the sculptor Agustín Casillas, located in the town of Santa Marta de Tormes in Salamanca.
«Agustín is an endearing sculptor who is part of our intellectual and emotional history,» said Santonja during the inauguration of the exhibition hall on Enrique de Sena Avenue in Santa Marta de Tormes, showcasing around thirty sculptures by Casillas (1921-2016).
Santonja, who attended the inauguration along with the Mayor of Santa Marta, David Mingo, and the sculptor’s two children, Antonio and Lidia Casillas, highlighted some of Casillas’ sculptures, such as those of La Celestina or Lazarillo, the mythical Adares, Rafael Farina, and the medallion of Cervantes in the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca.
The Mayor of Santa Marta, David Mingo, emphasized that the exhibition hall housing Casillas’ permanent sculptures is «a testament to the clear and firm commitment that the City Council has been making in recent years to establish Santa Marta as a reference point for contemporary art in the province of Salamanca.»
With the opening of this hall, there are now seven municipal spaces dedicated to artistic and cultural exhibitions across different disciplines.
Additionally, Mingo pointed out that the exterior facade of this new art gallery «is an example of Santa Marta’s dedication to art with a piece by Abel Ferreras.»
