The Governing Board of the Sacramental, Mercedarian and Penitential Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Stripped of His Garments and Mary Most Holy of Charity and Consolation has appointed Pablo Mangas Martín as the preacher of the Young Holy Week of 2025 in Salamanca.
Without any family tradition in the brotherhood and educated at the College of the Missionaries of the Divine Master, -currently studying Law-, Pablo Mangas joined the OJE Musical Group in 2010, where he began his musical and religious training.
Three years later, after its foundation in 2013, he continued his musical career in the Virgen de la Vega Musical Group in Salamanca. It is here where his connection with the brotherhood begins, as his membership in the OJE allows him to participate in the procession playing for Our Father Jesus Stripped of His Garments during its canonical blessing in 2012, as indicated by the brotherhood in a statement collected by Europa Press.
In 2017, they have noted, he became a brother in the brotherhood and every Palm Sunday he participates in the penitential station as a costalero brother and currently holds the position of sacramental and worship promoter within the organizational structure of the Governing Board of the Brotherhood.
This year, the brotherhood celebrates the twentieth edition of the Young Holy Week Proclamation, which will take place on March 15th at 8:00 p.m. at the Church of San Martín.
The Young Holy Week Proclamation originated in 2006, thanks to the initiative of the now-defunct Youth and Cultural Association Salamanca Cofrade. This celebration was created with the goal of giving voice and prominence to the young members of the brotherhoods and fraternities of the city in announcing the great days of the Passion.
In 2011, the Sacramental, Mercedarian and Penitential Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Stripped of His Garments and Mary Most Holy of Charity and Consolation took on the organization of the proclamation, following an agreement reached with the association. At that time, this Brotherhood was the youngest in the Holy Week of Salamanca, which reinforced the youthful character of the event.
Since its first edition, the proclamation has taken place in various emblematic spaces in Salamanca, such as the Church of San Benito, San Juan de Mata, CMI Julián Sánchez ‘El Charro’, or the Casino.
In recent years, the Church of San Sebastián, the canonical seat of the organizing brotherhood, has hosted this fraternal gathering where young people take the lead in the lead-up to Holy Week.
As part of this celebration, on March 15th and 16th, the brotherhood has organized a special program with a series of activities aimed at highlighting the importance of this fraternal event and promoting youth participation. Thus, a special meeting will be held where former preachers will share their experiences and reflections on Holy Week and this act of faith and culture.
Additionally, the youth group of the brotherhood will hold the I ‘Young Cofrades’ Conference, which will include roundtable discussions, an institutional event, a religious visit to various city temples, a lecture, and a closing Mass.
