The President of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, participated today in León in the XXII edition of the Círculo de Oro Gala, organized by the Círculo Empresarial Leonés (CEL), where he highlighted that, in this legislature, the regional executive has allocated more than €26 million to companies in León, representing around 16% of the total in the Community, as part of its commitment to the business fabric.

During his speech, where he praised the work of entrepreneurs and workers, Fernández Mañueco recalled that, with the aim of continuing to support companies that want to establish and grow to generate employment and wealth in the province of León, the Junta has granted more than €436 million in financing, leading to the creation of over 9,000 jobs.

The President stated that the regional executive is finalizing the expansion of the Villadangos Industrial Estate and will tender the expansion works of the Technological Park and the new access to the El Bayo industrial estate in the coming weeks.

He also emphasized the economic development of the Community, which is growing above the average of Spain and Europe, positioning itself as a leader in the growth of exports and industrial production in 2024. He also mentioned that the Government of the Junta de Castilla y León provides stability to society, allowing progress in social rights, offering the best services, and creating employment and new opportunities.

In the case of León, this dynamism is also reflected in its unemployment rate of 7.82%, three points below the Spanish average. Additionally, last year saw more people working than in the last 16 years, and León was the second province in the Community where the most commercial companies were created, with 512 new businesses and a year-on-year increase of 3%, thus registering the best data in the last five years.

The President of the Junta highlighted that in recent years, León has become the third biotechnological and pharmaceutical hub in Spain, a reference in various sectors such as logistics, steel, cybersecurity, or supercomputing. Finally, he mentioned that the regional executive continues to work towards the implementation of the Medicine Degree, which will be a reality in the 2026-2027 academic year, serving as a boost for future opportunities.

Círculo de Oro Awards

In this XXII edition of the Círculo de Oro Gala, the President of the Government of Castilla y León awarded the ‘Círculo de Oro 2024’ prize to Adolfo López Aguayo, founder and president of Recuperación de Materiales Diversos (RMD), for his outstanding career in industrial recycling and his strong commitment to the circular economy.

The rest of the business distinctions were awarded to: Héctor Luna, managing director of Grupo Luna, honored with the «Territorial Expansion» award for the successful national expansion of the family business in fire prevention; Cristina Santamarta, managing director of Autocristamóvil, awarded as «Business Woman» for her ability to break barriers and create a leading company in her sector; Diego Bajo and Héctor Herrero, co-founders of Déjame Pensar Producciones, who received the «Young Entrepreneurs» award for creating the music festival «Monoloco Fest,» a national reference; and the Fifth Intervention Battalion of the Military Emergencies Unit (UME), recognized with the «Social Economy» award for their service vocation and efficient response to emergency situations.
