Adult education is a key tool to address some of the main challenges in today’s Europe. In this sense, the Castilla y León Government offers the opportunity to resume studies to anyone who wishes to do so through training for access to other educational levels, such as obtaining the ESO Graduation certificate; access to vocational training or university for those over 25 and 45 years old; training aimed at obtaining professional skills or preparation for free exams to obtain vocational training certificates.

Today, the Education Counselor, Rocío Lucas, has participated in the inauguration of the III InterCEPAs Meeting of the province of Soria, a meeting with more than 360 participants that seeks to showcase the work of Adult Education Centers (CEPA).

The Education Minister has emphasized the importance given to education in this province. «Soria is not referred to as the Spanish Finland solely based on the exceptional results of our young people. The special interest that the entire population of Soria has in education is evident. Lifelong education should be a requirement for everyone, the desire to continue learning, to be excited about innovations, to want to keep our minds active and alert over the years, and education is our great ally for this purpose.»

Rocío Lucas also wanted to pay tribute «to the students, for continuing to walk; to the teachers, for accompanying that path with dedication and closeness; and to all the staff who make it possible for adult education in Castilla y León, and especially in Soria, to be a vibrant, strong, and hopeful project today.»

Adult Education in the Community

CEPAs in Castilla y León offer the possibility of pursuing formal education, which includes basic education for adults, and non-formal education, which includes several programs aimed at promoting adult access to the knowledge society through learning processes that promote personal, professional, and social development. Thus, the three training areas in which the educational offer is organized are an area of education aimed at accessing other levels of the education system, another aimed at professional development, and finally, another for personal and social development.

In the academic year 2024-2025, there are 19,817 people enrolled in adult education programs in the 71 CEPAs and classrooms in Castilla y León. Of these, nearly 14,000 are women, which represents 70%. In Soria, more than 2,100 people are enrolled in them.

The meeting was attended by the five centers offering adult education in the province: ‘Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer’ CEPA in Ólvega, ‘Celtiberia’ CEPA in Soria, ‘Pinares’ CEPA in Vinuesa, ‘El Camino’ CEPA in Almazán, and ‘Doña Jimena’ CEPA in San Esteban De Gormaz.
