The Emergency Center 1-1-2 Castilla y León has attended over two hundred calls related to incidents caused by adverse weather phenomena – rain and wind – until 7:00 PM, managing 144 alerts to emergency services.
Due to strong wind gusts, 172 calls were attended, with 111 incidents reported, 57 of which were related to obstacles on roads or public areas, such as trees, branches, traffic signs, garbage containers, flowerpots, etc. Another 46 alerts required emergency services’ intervention due to the danger of objects falling onto the public road.
The distribution of incidents by provinces places Valladolid and Ávila in the lead, with 26 and 25 alerts respectively. In Burgos, nine incidents were reported, and in León, thirteen others. Six and five alerts were managed in Palencia and Salamanca, respectively, while 22 incidents were reported in Segovia and five in Zamora.
Regarding alerts due to rainfall, a total of 61 calls were received for 33 incidents. Twelve alerts were due to overflowing streams, rivers, and creeks, and 11 for floods in streets, ground floors of houses, or garages. Six alerts reported the presence of water pools on roads and streets, while three reported water leaks inside homes.
The majority of alerts, specifically 22, occurred in the province of Segovia, while seven were in Ávila. In León and Salamanca, two emergencies were reported each due to rainfall.
The Government mobilizes intervention resources
In the case of the province of Segovia, the Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) of the Junta de Castilla y León has mobilized various intervention resources to collaborate with emergency services in the town of El Espinar (Segovia), affected by rainfall throughout the day.
Specifically, the helicopter of the Rescue and Salvage Group of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Agency was mobilized, conducting several reconnaissance flights in the province of Segovia. Additionally, the Emergency Logistic Support Unit (UALE) of the agency was deployed in El Espinar with two vehicles and fire pumps, intervening in various points of the municipality. Along with them, the emergency coordination center activated the Civil Protection groups of Cantalejo, Alfoz de Segovia, and Palazuelos de Eresma, who also arrived with vehicles and fire pumps.
Alert declared
Since Friday, the Junta de Castilla y León, through the Civil Protection and Emergencies Agency, has maintained a meteorological alert situation for rainfall and snow, which will remain in effect depending on the evolution of the fronts associated with an Atlantic storm located northwest of the Peninsula. According to information provided by the State Meteorological Agency, the period of greatest atmospheric instability will occur on Saturday, with heavier rainfall in the Central and Iberian systems, with snow accumulations reaching 50 centimeters at high altitudes.
Strong wind gusts are expected, especially on Saturday, reaching up to 90 km/h in plateau areas and 100 km/h in mountainous areas.
