Mar Sancho, the Deputy Minister of Cultural Action, has announced the II Castilla y León Publishers Fair ‘Editantes’, which will take place at Plaza Mayor in Segovia from July 17 to 20. This initiative is supported by the Castilian and Leonese Language Institute, the Castilla y León Regional Government, the Segovia City Council, the Segovia Provincial Council, and the Castilla y León Publishers Guild.

Mar Sancho highlighted how «following the success of its first edition held at the Palacio de la Isla in Burgos in 2024, the Castilla y León Publishers Fair ‘Editantes’ is coming to Segovia this summer, establishing itself as the premier event for the publishing sector in Castilla y León.» During the event presentation, the Deputy Minister stated that «the publishing sector is not only one of the main cultural industries in the region, but it also promotes the literary creation of our writers, whom we also aim to promote internationally, along with our Castilian language.» She emphasized that «books are the best ambassadors of our culture and literature, both for Spanish-speaking readers and the 24 million people currently studying Spanish worldwide.» Additionally, Mar Sancho pointed out that «Segovia is an international reference in terms of books and the birthplace of printing in Spain and in Spanish, with the Sinodal de Aguilafuente, making this fair a tribute to Juan Párix and Bishop Arias Dávila.»

Alongside the Deputy Minister of Cultural Action, the event presentation included the Mayor of Segovia, José Mazarías; the Culture Councilor, José María Bravo; the Culture Councilor, Juan Carlos Monroy; and the Vice President of the Publishers Guild, Carlos Rodríguez. All of them emphasized the importance of this forum in showcasing the work of independent and quality publishers as essential agents of cultural dynamism.

II ‘Editantes’ Fair

‘Editantes’ maintains the foundational spirit in its second edition: creating a space for dialogue among publishers, authors, and readers, promoting the book as a vehicle of knowledge, and reinforcing the role of Castilla y León as a land of creation and publishing. The event offers a program that combines exhibition of editorial catalogs, active participation of local bookstores, and cultural proposals for all audiences.

The objectives of the meeting focus on making the publishing sector of Castilla y León visible; connecting publishers with authors, bookstores, libraries, and new readership; promoting reading and increasing the national and international projection of Castilla y León publishers.

The participating publishers in this edition are: Aruz Ediciones, Cartem Cómics, Ediciones Menguantes, Ediciones T&T, Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca, Editorial Delirio, Editorial Difácil, Editorial Gráficas Maxtor, Editorial La Uña Rota, Editorial Páramo, Eolas Ediciones, Fundación Santa María la Real, Fundación Instituto Castellano y Leonés de la Lengua, and Menoscuarto Ediciones. Their catalogs showcase the plurality and richness of the regional publishing landscape, covering narrative, poetry, essays, illustration, comics, historical dissemination, and critical thinking. Additionally, the Segovian bookstores Antares, Cervantes, Diagonal, Ícaro, and Intempestivos, committed to promoting reading and cultural dissemination in the city, are also participating.

As a highlighted activity, on Saturday, July 19, at 6:00 PM, Zamorano writer Juan Manuel de Prada will offer a talk at the Casa de la Lectura-Biblioteca Municipal de Segovia, reflecting on the complexities of the novel editing process, from writing to publication.

Throughout the fair days, one of the bookmobiles managed by the Segovia Provincial Council will be present at Plaza Mayor, showcasing the operation of these public reading services, authentic mobile libraries that served 120 municipalities in the province in 2024 and are crucial for the cultural integration of rural areas.

The Castilla y León Publishing Sector, a Growing Cultural Industry

The Castilla y León Publishers Guild brings together 26 publishers with significant national and international projection. In 2022, it achieved record figures in book exports, confirming the dynamism of the sector. In 2025, this commitment was recognized with the National Award for Best Cultural Publishing Work given to the Segovian publisher La Uña Rota, known for its focus on less commercial genres like dramatic literature, essays, and poetry.

According to official data, more than 600 million people speak Spanish worldwide, and over 24 million study it as a foreign language, opening up new opportunities for regional publishers, who have managed to articulate their own identity through innovation, critical thinking, and aesthetic care. Furthermore, their activity actively contributes to cultural debate and strengthens the book chain: authors, publishers, bookstores, libraries, and readers.

The Castilian and Leonese Language Institute, promoter of studies on the origins of Spanish, reaffirms its commitment to the publishing sector through initiatives like this fair, which consolidate a dynamic, participatory, and growing cultural environment. Additionally, the Castilla y León Regional Government facilitates the participation of the regional publishing sector in major international, national, and regional book fairs.
