Castilla y León | Department of Environment, Housing, and Land Use Planning

The Department of Environment, Housing, and Land Use Planning of the Regional Government of Castilla y León has rehabilitated and improved the energy efficiency of the Roadworker housing units in Medina de Rioseco to allocate them to the public housing stock for rent.

The actions have involved an investment of 884,666 euros and have been financed by the Regional Government of Castilla y León with the support of European funds REACT-EU.

This is a promotion of 6 single-family roadworker housing units, owned by the Regional Government of Castilla y León, intended for rent. The executed works meet the objective of improving the thermal, acoustic, and habitability conditions of these housing units, resulting in modern and efficient units. The outcome is adapted to the Technical Building Code, with an aerothermal heating system, which leads to a significant improvement in energy rating, with an energy consumption of 54.7 kWh/m² per year contributing to a reduction of CO2 emissions of 9.3 kgCO2/m² per year.

The promotion is distributed in a single block corresponding to portal numbers 1 to 6. The six housing units are arranged in the same way. On the ground floor, there is a lobby, dining room, living room, kitchen, toilet, and individual back patio for each unit. On the first floor, there is a hallway, three bedrooms, and a bathroom. The odd-numbered units have a useful area of 88 m² and the even-numbered units have 89 m².

A seventh roadworker housing unit that was located apart from this block of six units, which were handed over, was rehabilitated last year and is already occupied for affordable rent by a family with eight children.
