The City Council of Salamanca has initiated the procedure for the tender of the works to expand and improve various green areas in the city, with a total base budget of 439,885.27 euros, focusing on the Carmelitas square, the Jesuits park, the El Baldío park, and the San Vicente, Carmelitas, and Doctor Torres Villarroel promenades.
These interventions are part of the public spaces improvement plan that the City Council has been implementing since 2019, with a cumulative investment of 11.2 million euros allocated to renovate more than 70 squares and parks, aiming to provide healthier and more enjoyable spaces for families.
Within this framework, the project for the Carmelitas square includes expanding the children’s play area to 700 square meters by adding two mini soccer fields next to the church, with a budget of 119,962.81 euros and a three-month execution period.
According to a statement from the City Council reported by Europa Press, the interior will be renovated with cushioned flooring finished with synthetic grass, and the play elements will be reorganized, including two new trampolines, a carousel, a seesaw, and a combination unit for 28 people.
This combination unit will consist of towers, stairs, slides, and walkways in green and brown tones. The existing zip line and basket swing will be maintained, and accessibility will be improved with a new entrance ramp, new benches, and the relocation of the drinking fountain.
On the other hand, the Jesuits park will have an investment of 64,998.33 euros and a three-month execution period to expand the children’s areas located next to the sports courts. In the larger area of 1,600 square meters, new elements such as a quadruple pendulum swing and a wooden pyramid net will be installed.
In the adjacent area of 700 square meters, the current combination unit will be replaced by a larger one for 28 children. Additionally, in the children’s area closest to the sports courts, covering 90 square meters, the rubber flooring will be replaced with synthetic grass to enhance safety.
EL BALDÍO PARK
The El Baldío park, a natural area of ten hectares frequented by people with pets, will undergo an intervention valued at 84,953.81 euros and lasting for two months.
In this context, the improvements include installing two wooden pergolas of over 60 square meters, five picnic-style tables, expanding the dog shower platform, placing two new fountains, and rocks as benches under wooded areas.
Additionally, a 500 square meter artificial wetland will be created to promote biodiversity, in line with the Savia Green Infrastructure Strategy. Fences with gates will also be installed at the accesses to the Camino de los Frailes to enhance animal safety.
Finally, the urban biodiversity improvement project in the San Vicente, Carmelitas, and Doctor Torres Villarroel promenades has a budget of 169,970.32 euros and a two-month execution period.
This initiative will expand the landscaped areas by planting 7,600 low-water consumption shrubs adapted to the city’s climate and preserve native animals. Invasive species like the tree of heaven will be removed, and unstable trees like some shade trees will be cut down.
These actions will involve replacing damaged curbs, enhancing flower beds, and installing twelve new benches to expand rest areas.
