Castilla y León | President of the Junta de Castilla y León

The President of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, participated today in the ceremony where SOLTRA, a company dedicated to the social integration of people with disabilities since 2000, was awarded the XIX Diario de León Prize for Social Development and Human Values.

In his speech, Fernández Mañueco highlighted that people with disabilities are a priority for the Junta de Castilla y León, aiming for them to live with equal opportunities and be protagonists of their own lives.

To achieve this, among other actions, the regional government has promoted the Law to Support the Life Project of People with Disabilities in Castilla y León, which came into force in 2024.

Regarding measures to facilitate the labor integration of these individuals, the Junta recently announced a line of aid to continue supporting the special employment centers in Castilla y León, where over 6,600 workers are employed. In fact, the regional government has increased the number of special employment centers in the Community by 30% and the number of workers by 48% over the past decade.

In the case of León, the Junta provided aid amounting to 10 million euros to 84 special employment centers last year, benefiting 1,750 people. This means that 26% of all government aid to promote the employment of people with disabilities goes to this province.

Additionally, the President of the Junta highlighted that Castilla y León has the best ratio in Spain of residential places and day and occupational centers for this group. Furthermore, the regional government continues to invest in modern infrastructures, such as the new building of the Assessment and Care Unit for People with Disabilities in León, with a budget exceeding 5 million euros and construction progressing well.

Collaboration with SOLTRA

The Junta de Castilla y León maintains a broad collaboration with SOLTRA, sharing common goals as part of its commitment to people with disabilities and the Third Sector.

Fernández Mañueco emphasized that the regional government supports the operation of SOLTRA’s Special Employment Center and collaborates in various specialized employment paths. Furthermore, within the framework of Dependency Care, in which Castilla y León is a reference in Spain, the Junta collaborates with the ‘Doña Cinia’ Residence located in León.

Since its establishment in 2000, SOLTRA has become a reference in promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities.

Finally, the President of the Junta expressed gratitude for the significant work carried out by this company, which generates 500 jobs in León and promotes social integration.
