The Monte Santiago Park House, located in the municipality of Berberana (Burgos), is the main access point for enthusiasts wishing to visit the famous Nervión Waterfall. Thousands of visitors come to this spot every year, resulting in heavy traffic that has caused significant deterioration of the road.

For this reason, from July 1st to July 31st, vehicle access will be restricted due to improvement works on the access road and parking areas. Pedestrian access will be allowed through the PR-BU 45 trail, known as the Nervión Waterfall Viewpoint Trail.

Improvement Actions

The Department of Environment, Housing, and Land Planning, through the Natural Heritage Foundation, published a tender on February 21st for the improvement and enhancement of the access road and parking lots of the Monte Santiago Park House, a Natural Monument in Burgos, for a total of 152,738 euros.

In previous years, to prevent this situation, several sections were improved by constructing reinforced concrete slabs 5 meters wide and 11 centimeters thick, which are currently in good condition. The rest of the road has a gravel pavement in poor condition, with many potholes that hinder vehicle circulation.

Another aspect of the tender is the improvement and repair of the three parking lots at the Natural Monument. Work will be done on the one located right at the entrance of the road connecting the BU-556 road (PK 5.5) with the Park House, known as Hoyalante. Signage will be repaired and expanded. The Fuente Santiago parking lot, 1.6 kilometers from the entrance, will also be repaired, as well as the Dehesa del Agua parking lot (PK 7.5), which will also receive new signage.
